The Flathead Valley comprises an area approximately 35 miles long and 16 miles wide. On the south, it includes the north portion of Flathead Lake, the largest body of fresh water west of the Mississippi, and the towns of Bigfork, Somers and Lakeside. It is bounded on the southwest by the town of Kalispell, on the north by the town of Whitefish, and on the east by the town of Columbia Falls. The Whitefish and Swan Mountain Ranges form the eastern boundary and the Salish Mountains the western boundary. There are 7 excellent golf courses in the Flathead, with 2 within 6 miles of La Villa Montana. The Flathead Valley, while in an area by itself, is not remote, it is only a 2 ¼ hour drive to Missoula, the site of the University of Montana. Spokane is just 4 hours drive from the Flathead Valley, while Seattle is 8 hours away.

The Flathead Valley is a recreational paradise offering hiking, biking, golfing, fishing, tennis, river rafting and horseback riding. Winter activities are also numerous with superb downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, and back country snowmobiling.

Driving is different and fun in Montana. With only about 850,000 people living in Montana, (Overlay Montana on the Atlantic coast and it would reach from Boston east to Cleveland and south to Baltimore!) it is a very large state. One encounters very little traffic driving the interstates or state highways. Scenic beauty abounds on almost all of the roads, providing a never-ending panorama of breath-taking views.
